let me just start off by saying that i’ve really really really tried to define my style this past season and i just have too many different tastes to be limited. one minute i think i’m only into really neutral calming tones and then the next i’m at kate spade splurging on a taffeta dress with pink poppies on it. i think that is ok though fashion is art and your shouldn’t be limited to just one style. that is what keeps it interesting right? one of my favorite places to stock up locally is a store called a.k. rikks. it is gorgeous people. if you are a grand rapids dweller they are located near cascade off of 28th street. the building itself is stunning with it’s modern architecture and big windows that let in the natural light. i’ve written about them before but when it’s a favorite you just keep going back. they are home to brands like j.brand, tory burch, jimmy choo, haute hippie, rebecca taylor and more.
now, i am a budget shopper. i always have been. i’m a sales girl, i can’t help myself. i usually sneak in when their annual sales happen because items are more in my price range at those times. in addition to the many things i love about this store i think the top one is just because i am a sale shopper i do not get neglected from the help and attention needed to find the right pieces. i’ve been shopping their sales for a few years now and i know that i am going to have devoted help and assistance each and every time.
let’s talk a little about this dress shall we? this was my most recent purchase from their summer sale about a month ago. i was saving it for a good day and what a better morning than to hang out at the greenhouse stocking up on pumpkins and mums with my pal kristin. this dress is something i don’t think i would have picked out on my own. in fact i didn’t. my friend ben from a.k. rikks did. you see i have this problem… for some reason i always buy denim denim denim. why? i can only wear it really 2-3 days out of the week the rest is reserved for business casual. but i loooooooove a new pair of jeans. this time as i was walking out with an armful of denim ben had me try a few new brands and items on. i have to say, the man is good. rather than buying 3-4 pairs of jeans i would get moderate use out of, he helped me pick out two really beautiful dresses that i would be able to wear to work, weddings and special occasions. i really really valued his honesty because he was right. i have gotten so much more wear out of this dress than i would have another pair of jeans *note i have like 30 pairs. (don’t judge).
the dress is from theory and it’s light as air. it seriously feels like fresh washed expensive sheets. i love the casual but fitted look of it. i wore it to my mom’s birthday party and to work. it’s so transitional. i have to admit i have been working my booty off at the gym and this dress just made me feel proud of my body because it hugs at just the right places. only thing now… i’m kind of a theory addict now.
