sorry for the lack of updates yesterday. i just needed a day to get out of town (at least my town) and clear my head. no phone, no work, just breathe a bit and get inspired.
i don’t know if you remember last year but i was such a scrooge and i am bound and determined to enjoy and celebrate this holiday season. i feel like i went through a few years of holiday season where it became too real to me that time was moving too fast. celebrating while missing a few loved ones and realizing that i am in fact an adult. this is going to be the last year on my side of the family that my brother, sister and i will be the “kids” at christmas. next year i will be having a beautiful new niece or nephew at the hoppen family christmas (LOREN and STEPHANIE! (not olivia) lets make that clear)
my little brother and his wife are having a bambino and things are going to be different yet wonderful. i am going to take this season and get into it, enjoying the last season as “kids” and getting ready for exciting changes.
i went to chicago yesterday because i have conference here today but i wanted to go and get inspired. i love the store windows here and my favorite shops all decorated for the holiday seasons. i went to some amazing places yesterday.
i went to this amazing home store called jayson. it was so fresh and such a different take on vintage and repurposed. it was absolutely stunning. i’m seriously in love with these chairs.
i ended up getting some amazing cement planters that are gray and black and look like tree trunks. they will go perfect in my new dining room. i also found this cookbook by chicago chefs. you know i am a sucker for cookbooks.
while i was at jayson home i also went to the crate and barrel outlet. it wasn’t as great as i was hoping for but i still managed to find some ornaments. they were 99 cents!
after a morning of shopping i grabbed a delicious lunch at franks n dawgs. lamb sausage with pickled root veggies, a spicy cheese sauce and a fried bun. omg.
after lunch i headed to anther shopping center and went to:
Crate and Barrel
and West Elm
west elm nailed it. their holiday displays and gifts are amazing! i bought a few pillows and this awesome cheese platter by fishs eddy that looks like a piece of notebook paper. they have such an amazing display right now i spent at least an hour in there.
after that i headed to grand street to check out some more shops.
The find and Painted Lady. The Find had some interesting vintage pieces but they are 3 x the price you’ll find in west michigan but still inspiring and interesting to see. the painted lady was very shabby chic and not really my taste. but i still had a great time walking around.
i checked into my hotel after that which has a great view over navy pier and went out to do….more shopping! i went to the watertower place (duh) a few stores we do not have around GR and another crate and barrel. i had plans for dinner but honestly i was exhausted and my stomach was aching from the lunch festivities so i went and bought some dinner at trader joes and vegged out in my room the rest of the night.
relaxing and just what the dr. ordered. now psyched up for a nice long conference, dinner with a friend then heading home!
ps. found my dining room chairs. muhaha
