well folks… after three coats of paint the entry way to the farmhouse is FINALLY painted and somewhat done (there will always be changes). if you can remember the walls use to be a pretty blue but I really wanted to freshen it up a bit. i chose a benjamin moore dove white and i just think it really made things POP. next on my list for this room is to replace the overhead light (it’s a stained glass dome) and the floors. They are a dark wood laminate but they have faux nail heads in the floor which kind of drive me insane. i would love to do a slate tile in here someday…… so on to more of the farmhouse entry renovation!
alot of the items in this room are flea finds and scores from antique stores (as well as my own store). i found this rug from one of my favorite antique vendors on the planet this weekend at the kalamazoo kitty market. don’t judge i totally bought two rugs. i used to have just a jute runner in here from world market but this space needed some glam.
this bench never even made it tot he floor at the found cottage. my friend Holli from hollyhocks and hydrangeas brought it in and i had to have it. it fit perfectly in between the two windows! a few other found cottage finds are the pillows handmade by the lovely and talented sue from Fabric Scout. the lantern pillow is a slice from a panel of vintage cabin fabric and the michigan pillow was an embroidery sample i found at a flea that she made into a pillow. this woman…. can make anything into a pillow. the checked pillows behind them were a wayfair purchase from this summer. they are technically indoor/outdoor pillows but they work for here too!
i received this lovely gift in the mail from my instagram friend Amanda @amanda_mc13 she surprised me with this adorable watercolor painting of our home. this is so special to me and i hung it right by the door so i can look at it every time i leave the house. i was in a straight up panic though because i lost her card that came with it and i searched for a solid 2 months. remember when i cleaned out the kitchen? found it in one of the utensil drawers. Amanda if you are reading this… i will treasure this forever. (frame is west elm)
this is the light overhead that will need some replacing. i ordered a gold schoolhouse light from schoolhouse electric. each light is handmade so it takes a little while but it is worth the wait.
this hutch was given to me by a friend who was moving her store and didn’t want to take it with her. how could i say no to that!?! especially when it holds my surplus vintage dishes hoard and other vintage things i can’t live without! everything else in the cupboard has been found at fleas and estate sales. these fans used to sit up on my lockers at the old house but i love the little pop of color they give to the entry way now.
also remember how i was looking for that one piece of art….. my friend who picks for the store sometimes found me this authentic ALBERS feed sign!?!!? apparently they were in business around the 50’s my new mission is to find more albers stuff. isn’t this amazing!?!? it was a pretty penny for what i usually pay for flea finds but this is one things i couldn’t let get away.
last addition is my new little mint stool i found at garden house antiques right by my house. it’s the perfect spot to plop your keys or your coffee cup when locking up.
what do you think?! I can’t wait to keep working on it!
see what it looked like before here.
