ok so does the holiday season start with halloween or thanksgiving? because in my neck of the woods christmas music began playing the day after halloween (didn’t it used to start the day after thanksgiving?) no matter when you being or mark the start of your holiday season the key is to stay sane during this busy and bustling time.
it’s week 43 of our best self challenge and i have to admit it’s hard for me to maintain or at least strive to being my “best self” during this season. i usually start off on a holiday high but by the 10th christmas party and cheese log.. i’m over it. ok maybe just the parties not so much the cheese log.
a few things that keep me sane during the holiday are planning, rest, and exercise.
last year it was so helpful to be hitting the gym before getting my coffee in the morning. even if it was just walking listening to podcasts the ability to just have an hour to myself and my headphones walking in a repetitive motion really got rid of a lot of stress and helped me plan and prepare for the day.
planning. i don’t care how many times people tell you you’re supposed to use your phone to keep track of things but i’m telling you sometimes writing it down with pen and paper commits it to memory and makes me feel more organized. i write down everything. travel times, recipes, ingredient lists, what gifts to bring and it keeps me on track, on time and on budget.
rest. this year i’ve said NO to a lot of things during the holiday season. why is it we all feel the need to cram everything around one day. the holiday can go on as long as you want it to. as hard as it is to want to please everyone you have to realize you just can’t. great aunt ermatrude can wait until january to get together. ps you can get more rest when you plan (see above).
i scoured pinterest and found some other good tips and tricks for staying on track this holiday season. what do you do to keep your sanity?0
