i’m sitting here and my brain is just fried. this month has been a whirlwind of planning for the flea and making lists, staying up late, getting up early…
sunday night i’m going to just crash. after we have family pictures of course.
it is really hard for me to not go into what i call “survival mode”.
survival mode: when you have large tasks at hand and you literally walk around with your nose to the ground ignoring everything going on around you and focus in on the tasks at hand wishing the day to be here and the bubble bath at the end to come.
survival mode isn’t good. but sometimes it’s the only way to cope. it is very hard for me to sit back and relax and enjoy the ride. i am a worrier, a worst case scenario thinker, anxiety driven person at times. but i’m working on that i swear. i am consistently sitting back and gathering my thoughts taking it all in and preparing myself for the tasks at hand.
so how do you survive a super busy week? here are three tips to survive and thrive.
- make lists – i have been trying to do this on weekly basis, map out my week based on to do list. carrying over each task i do not make it to but trying to accomplish at least three out of the five checks per day. i find that if i make a list i can look back on what i did accomplish and move forward knowing that i got some work done. it also helps me stay organized and on track. if i sit at my desk wondering what to do next then i bump on to facebook and waste time.
- close your facebook window – it’s hard because facebook is part of my job. (marketing director) but when i’m in the grind and i need to get things taken care of i have to have to have to just close the facebook window. notifications are distracting and just one click can sucker you down the black hole of facebook. next thing you know you have spent a precious hour watching buzzfeed videos and reading news article comments.
- find your center – breathe. know that you can go into the week with confidence that you have prepared the best you could. take a moment to be quiet, find your center, talk to God and just be calm. sometimes i need to shut my office door and a few times a day and just put my head on my desk and breathe in and out, reflect on what i’ve done and what i have left to do. count to ten and pick up where you left off and keep running.
these are three tips that work for me. what are some techniques that you use when life gets insanely busy?0
