this living room has got me in a bit of a design pickle. i am loving how it is coming together. we painted everything in here green, added the plaid carpet and painted the fireplace black (tile paint). i would eventually love to add some marble to the fireplace but that is for another day. the room is just so long! (and narrow!)
i bought the couches from birchlane.com when they had 30% off the entire site. they are both slip covered so perfect for living room lounging. the chairs are from west elm as well as the pillows. i found the tv cabinet at a flea market this summer and i thought it added just a bit of vintage rustic to the room rather than rustic-rustic (if that makes sense). it’s easy for plaid carpet to go too “lodge” got to add a few vintage pieces in here to make it work.
so here is my struggle. what am i to do with this big gap in between the couches and chairs?! i cannot find a coffee table that is wide enough to fit this space that isn’t too long (if it’s too long it blocks in front of the tv). i have thought about not making the fireplace the focal point of the room but who wants to do that?! maybe this room is meant to be divided into two? suggestions for this gap? i was looking at this coffee table but it isn’t wide enough unless i move the couches closer together and put the chairs somewhere else. this coffee table (to put it into perspective) is about 4 plaid squares wide.
the other question now is what to do with this giant blank wall? i thought about hanging a bunch of pictures on it but i don’t want it to seem to cluttered. i did find (courtesy of my pal heidi) and giant white rusty sign that says grand rapids ice cream in red letters but that doesn’t really fit the “theme” of this room…. does it?
