this was one of the best weekends in….forever.
joe was supposed to be in florida for the weekend/week but like i said before his grandpa went in to the hospital ( and is doing MUCH better now) but thought it was best to cancel the trip and stay home.
so you know that feeling when you think you are going to have the whole house to yourself? and then it doesn’t happen and then you have to readjust your weekend? at first i was a little meh but it ended up being so good.
friday night i was on a cleanse day so i had juice for dinner and then joe and i went to home depot and stocked up on a few things. bought paint for the office but didn’t end up painting and then went to TSC where they had baby chicks in stock!
we didn’t get any friday night but thought we should set up the coop. they had meat chickens and if we got them now they would be done in about 5 – 6 weeks before my laying chicks came…
saturday morning i woke up bright and early and headed to a flea market in st. charles il with my friend lisa. the market didn’t open until 12pm so we went to some thrifts stores and antique shops which totally sucked. we then discovered binnys. how have i gone this long and never gone to a binnys? i picked up some amazing mixers and liqueurs for spring (dare to dream). we went to the flea market and it was small but fun. i got this AH-MA-ZING 4-h sign, chicken prints from a 1925 guidebook, a pink wall clock with a flipping date, a vintage wooden arrow and an old tool shop hook rail which i thought would be perfect for an entry way hanger.
we stopped at earth fare in kalamazoo on our way home. it was insane! this grocery store is full of organic, whole foods, non GMO, no high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors and preservatives. it’s so amazing you can just shop and know what you are buying is good for you (within reason).
after stocking up at earth fare we met joe at the lost raven and had dinner. i could have a 500 calorie meal so i had grilled shrimp on a bed of kale with a roasted pepper puree. it was delicious!
sunday morning we walked around the property planning out where we wanted to put the gardens and critters and what not. i made some muffins for joe because he is not on the cleanse and was starving. then we went to TSC and bought CHICKENS! yep we have 7 small little chicks that will be turned into dinner in about 6 weeks or so. i’m so excited! we got them all situated in the coop and then worked around the house. joe stacked wood and i cleaned a vintage cabinet for the dining room and put away all my vintage finds. later in the afternoon i finally completed my seed order and ordered a few things for the house.
at night we grilled up some amazing steaks on my cast iron grill pan with some brussel sprouts. we used this amazing rub that i bought while i was in chicago from little goat diner. it was delicious. then we watched old school and went to bed. it was a great weekend!
happy monday now. boo.0
