another good weekend for the books people.
friday night we spent the evening at home. we made a batch of meatballs and turned them into meatball pizza and watched a movie. pretty low key but honestly it’s so nice to have a night of nothing after a long week knowing that you get to do whatever you want the next day.
saturday we woke up bright and early and got to work on our task list.
move furniture out of barn and into painted farmgirl/ get ready for flea markets!well kinda moved a bunch of stuff out of the barn and got a few boxes ready for flea market! get seeds started (finally)until i ran out of dirt. so half started make dessert for easter (something with pineapple) i have a lot left over from this week
- finalize garden bed plans
do some research on pigstill need to do more though continue/finish decorating the dining room need a few more pieces
- photograph dining room
- decide if i’m going to paint parlor
set out outdoor furniture….?
ok so i accomplished quite a bit on saturday! i knew i wasn’t going to make it to everything but i think i got a pretty good start. we were moving the patio furniture out of the barn and it literally just started snowing like crazy! we moved all the furniture out but we still need to clean it up and perhaps put another layer of poly on it. i started about 9 flats of seeds but still have a lot more to do however i ran out of dirt. we then did some random box unpacking and etc stuff around the house.
i was inside working on unpacking some misc boxes from the move (still..you know the non essentials) when i heard a pounding at the door. i ran to open it and a fricken giant german shepard came running into the house while this woman whom i’ve never seen before was frantically yelling at me to call 911! i said what is going on and she was yelling the “the building is on fire! the sugar shack is on fire! call 911”. she grabbed her dog i yelled for joe and called 911 as we ran out to the sugar shack. here is what we saw: tons and tons of hot sugar smoke. joe yelled where is your fire extinguisher!?! she said “i don’t know but there is our propane tank” WTF? we quickly realize that the shack is not on fire it is the oven/woodfire that they use to heat it up that is on fire. we tell 911 not to come (as i’m still on the phone with them) the lady is just standing there doing nothing while joe is cracking all the windows to clear the smoke and scooping the soot out of the sap burner thingy. i looked at the lady and said leash your dog now please, i have my own dogs here. it’s the only somewhat coherent thing i could say in my anger. turns out the maple syrup people left this woman there to watch the burner who had never done it before. she let the sap burn down to nothing which in turn set it on fire. the building is fine, everyone was fine but …. we were not happy about this situation. not sure what we are going to do about it….but turning that maple syrup shack into an abby’s retreat shed is looking better and better to me.
after a long day of getting stuff done around the house we got cleaned up and went to a tapas restaurant in kalamazoo called fandango. the food was good and seriously about 25% less than a sanchez bill would be. the thing about tapas though is all of the food is so rich that i can only eat a little bit. but all was well. we watched the state game there and then headed to another little bar called the union. here is the thing about kalamazoo right now. it’s a college town and when you ask your waitress for a good cocktail bar they send you off to get appletinis. anyone know of a good craft cocktail bar in the kalamazoo area? i’m all ears.
we went home and watched the roast of justin beiber and fell asleep.
sunday we went to the early service with my uncle terry and aunt pat then home to whip up a dessert for easter. i’ll be posting the recipe soon i made what i think is the easiest dessert i’ve ever made. all with things i had on hand. (because i had a lot of pineapple). yikes.
we headed up to my parents cottage near norton shores for lunch with the whole family including some extra friends. my mom made an incredible spread and we went for a walk down to lake michigan afterwards to help digest.
sunday night was the usual. getting ready for the extremely busy week ahead and watched a little tommy boy 🙂
happy monday everyone!0
