for some reason this weekend seemed longer than memorial day weekend? not sure why. maybe because i crammed more in? (if that’s possible)
friday night on my way home from work i stopped in at my uncles house who lives not far from us and chatted about garden stuff and how to work with clay soil. (ugh). after that i headed home and our friends brooke and jesse came over and we had a glass of wine on the porch and headed to the old mill pub for a late(r) dinner.
saturday morning i woke up at the ass crack of dawn picked up my friend lisa and began the almost 3 hour trek across the state to get to the midland flea market. to me, any flea is worth the drive but i love the drive for this one. it’s mostly back roads and you see some amazing old barns and farm houses literally in the middle of nowhere and just miles and miles of farmland. it’s really a gorgeous drive. we picked through the flea market in about 4 hours. i was really looking for personal stuff but couldn’t help but pick up a few things for the painted farmgirl booth. i usually go with three themes in mind when shopping
1. penthouse- black, white, red plaid campy
2. farmhouse – industrial primitive, farmy landscapes
3. camper – 40’s -60’s floral pink glam
i mostly found things for the penthouse which is fine with me as we get closer and closer to the interior “finishings”
i got home around 4:00 in the afternoon and joe and i walked around looking at the projects he had accomplished that day. opening the pool (or pond as it looks right now), cleaning out the chicken coop in preparation for new chicks, and finishing off my garden beds. we then got cleaned up and headed for dinner in kalamazoo to a place called food dance. i went there a few times with my college roomie (who i miss) but i haven’t been in years. it was super delicious i had the bed and breakfast burger which was grassfed beef, chipolte mayo, fried egg and bacon. it was heavenly (and i only could eat half!) for an appetizer we had greek feta baked in lemon and olive oil sprinkled with roasted peppers. it was delicious! i picked up a few things from their deli market for breakfast the next day and we headed home.
oh and fell asleep before 9pm. we were exhausted!
sunday morning work up bright and early again and lisa, joe and i headed to the allegan flea market. it was ho hum this time. i only found a few pieces of pyrex and a pretty awesome picture for the dining room. other than that it was a little lack luster. mostly because of the gale force winds and rain. joe and i went home and made a big bacon and egg breakfast, took a nap, went to home depot and then worked on the garden for the rest of the day. i got about 80% off my plants in the 4 beds. i’m going to have to work on the soil though for in ground planting we have clay. boo. so i have to wait for it to all dry out and go over it again with the rototiller and mix in some top soil and peat. then plant pumpkins and squash.
at night we watched the tigers and ate pizza and just chilled out for the rest of the night.
hope everyone had a good weekend!0
