i love holiday weekends. i officially vote holiday weekends in the summer over any other holiday in the universe. (ask me that around thanksgiving because i Luuuuuuuuv me some thanksgiving. it went by so quickly but it was so amazing i have zero complaints.
friday night i closed the shop and we headed out to itty bitty bar with some friends to relax, eat and kick off the holiday weekend. since summer time is coming to a (sob!) end we hit up captain sundae afterwards to split a flurry. couldn’t resist just a few bites. exhausted from the workweek (and stuffed full) we headed home and crashed.
saturday morning we were going to try and go to the farmers market but ran out of time so we headed out to a small breakfast at the rainbow grille in hudsonville before i went and opened the shop for the day. i worked with my pal allison from the golden sycamore and we had a blast with all of the hustle and bustle from people traveling to the store for the holiday weekend. seriously was so amazing. after we closed up for the night joe and i headed up to pentwater to have dinner with some friends that have been gone for weeks on a sailing trip. we grilled out some steaks, drank some wine and enjoyed the weekend sunset. we rode our bikes back to the cottage and i don’t even think my head hit the pillow before i was out cold. we slept in (7am!) and had coffee at the cottage, read a bit then headed to my parents cottage in norton shores.
we had brunch and walked to church with the fam and then spent the afternoon cruising on the boat to grand haven and back. it was seriously the perfect weather day. it wasn’t too hot, zero humidity and i couldn’t believe it but you could see the bottom of the lake all the way out at 18 feet. it was incredible. the water looked like the Caribbean! after a long day on the boat we got cleaned up as best we could and headed to this cute little restaurant on the beach called “the deck” and enjoyed some smoked meats (you know how much i love smoked meats) and live music. the band was awesome, i have to figure out what their name was. that brought us to about 8pm and we made it home by 9:30pm.
monday…. i just want some credit. yesterday i didn’t go to any flea markets. yep. holiday weekend and i didn’t go to a single market. as hard as it was i was craving a morning at home to just catch up on things. i gutted my kitchen from top to bottom. cleaned out every single cupboard and drawer wiped it clean and threw away at least 10 bags of waste and trash. it felt good and everything is so organized. it feels absolutely amazing. while i was doing that my husband was outside working i had no idea what he was doing. turns out he repaired a barn door that had fallen down in the last big storm. the entire frame had rotted and fallen off taking down the track and everything. joe completely rebuilt the door frame, re painted it and hung the track. i was so proud of him! he is so good at so many things but being a handy man was never one of them. bit by bit he is learning! ps want to know a sure fire way to get more stuff around the house done? tell a dude you think it’s super sexy when they fix stuff. a lot of stuff gets done after that. trust me. around 2pm we headed into hudsonville to tear apart the store for the fall reset. my dad and joe and lisa and liz’s husbands came to help move the new giant pieces of furniture into the shop. now it’s putting it back together. (heads up the shop is closed to today!)
around 6pm we headed home and joe and i had a roast i had tossed in a crockpot, spaghetti squash (so tasty! a dollop of butter, black pepper and parmesan baked @ 400 for 15 minutes) and baked apples. watched tommy boy and called it a weekend!
hope everyone enjoyed their labor day weekend!0
