we are home recovering from our first major cold of the “cold and flu season”. guys, sick kids are the pits. we quarantined ourselves home for the most part until otto makes a full recovery. i can’t tell you the last time we all had a good night sleep. needless to say…we are tired. also nothing tests your patience with your partner more than a kid with a cold… am i right? luckily we kept it in check and worked really hard to keep the weekend light and relaxing and making good use of our time at home.
i am a big fan of the seasons in michigan (aside from the colds and snow shoveling) (you know i actually don’t mind the snow shoveling, i will take it over colds). i love the start to one season and knowing it has an end. even though i have lived in michigan my entire life, i’m still continuously surprised when winter comes how dry my hair and skin become. pair that with our hard well water and you have the perfect storm for really really dry, fizzy, curly hair. i asked on my instagram stories for some suggestions for deep conditioning treatments. i haven’t been happy with the last few i’ve tried and you all had some great suggestions! i’m going to be checking them off the list but coincidentally someone recommended a treatment called a Redken Chemistry Shot. which sounds pretty intense but i went and got one sunday and it was quite a lovely experience.
SmartStyle Salon by Regis in plainwell, michigan was kind enough to give me a gift certificate to try out some of their services and since i was out and about picking up all the stuff i forgot earlier in the week (wrapping paper, wall nails and tape) i figured i would swing in to the SmartStyle while joe was home with the baby and knew i was out “getting supplies” . plus… the treatment involves a hair wash and condition and it was 20 minutes of relaxation. joe didn’t need to know i was out.
my stylist Jennifer suggested we use two different kinds of treatments for different parts of my hair. on my scalp and roots we used the volume and the ends and middle we used all soft which would help strip some of the harsh garbage from our well water out of my hair. there are just two simple steps to this treatment, a leave in for 5 – 10 minutes and then a spray. we then finished off with a quick natural style trying out a few of the curl products they offered at the salon.
i have to be honest, i’m shocked at how smooth my hair is! it feels so silky even after sleeping on it. I barely had to use the smoothing cream this morning which was a nice change. after she washed and gave the treatment to my hair we used the DESIGNLINE curl cream to finish and the serum to smooth away the frizzies. i was grateful for Jennifer explaining the steps and what each product does for curly hair. she gave me a new tip for keeping my curls frizz-free: comb through my hair when i have the conditioner on it in the shower and then avoid brushing it after i rinse it out. i’m totally going to give that a whirl!
i picked up few other Redken hair masks to try out later at home but it was nice to just have a few minutes to myself to relax and give my hair some TLC. i’ll keep you posted on how the treatment lasts. Has anyone else tried this before?
thank you so much to SmartStyle Hair Salons for the opportunity to check out you guys. This post was sponsored by SmartStyle but all opinions and reviews are 100% my own.
