ok so when i asked for recipes..you guys gave them to me! holy moly i have about 50 total recipes of sugar cookies that you guys say is the best. i just finished the second recipe but before i do that i thought i should share round one of the sugar cookie bake off. i love how all the cookies have very similar elements but just one little thing that makes each recipe different. i chose this one at random and it comes to us from … mrs. clause until i can find back the instagram message with the persons name who sent this to me. i suck. so if you gave me this recipe for mrs. claus’ sugar cookies PLEASE write me so I can update this post.
I love that the picture still had a piece of tape holding the recipe to the paper. it was worthy enough to secure with tape, it’s worthy enough to test out baking.
i really wanted to try out the flood icing technique so i used the pioneer womans instructions for such. which led me to also make a blue cheese sauce for my steak. ree drummond has a way of making you do that doesn’t she?
for decorating i purchased the gift bags from the target hearth and hand line by magnolia. the icing colors and icing decorations (bows and ornaments) are from wilton.
I also used wilton piping bags and the small circle tip for the icing.
ok so here is the recipe
1 cup butter softened
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups of flour (sifted)
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
in a mixer with a paddle attachement cream butter and sugar about 3 minutes. add eggs and vanilla.
sift together flour, baking soda and salt. slowly mix in making sure to scrape the sides to get it all incorporated. wrap in plastic and chill 2 hours – overnight. (i chilled mine about 4 hours) on a well floured board roll out to 1/4th inch thickness and cut out cookies and place on a parchment lined baking sheet at 375F for 10-12 minutes. let cool completely on a wire rack before icing.
ok so here is what i thought of this recipe. the shapes bubbled up just a little bit so i’m glad that i didn’t use super detailed cookie cutters. this recipe worked perfect for large cookie cutters like trees, ornaments and snowmen. i also liked that it wasn’t overly sweet so it was a nice balance for the icing. i mean let’s face it… cookies are usually used as a cute shovel to pile frosting into my face. am i right? i mean i guess there are some out there that only like the cookie… or like the cake and scrape the frosting off.. but can they really be trusted? lol. i am having so much fun with this project and i can’t wait to share the next one with you!
I think you need to open a small cafe. Everything you cook or baked just looks amazing.
