Easter Candy is the king of all candy. There is not a better holiday for candy offerings than Easter. Try and prove me wrong. Nothing can or ever will top Cadbury eggs and marshmallow Peeps. To celebrate such occasion I thought it would be so fun to put a spin on a classic charcuterie board and make a delicious and colorful Easter candy charcuterie board to bring in to the office. We are in that slump before spring and I feel like everyone could use a bit of a pick me up. What better way to do that than to bring in a candy board that has everyone’s favorites on it?

It was so fun shopping for all the different Easter candy. Over the last month anytime I stopped in to a convenience store, grocery or even craft store I would check out what kind of Easter candy they had to offer. We are short a chocolate bunny or two because someone’s toddler… helped themselves. I swear Otto is going to play this “remember when I wouldn’t eat anything orally” thing well into his teens because I can’t say no especially when it’s a new flavor or texture that he’s willing to try. Let me tell you, Otto is a big fan of the chocolate bunnies.

I think almost every retail establishment is offering some sort of Easter candy but I found everything on this platter at the following locations:

  • Hobby Lobby
  • Michaels
  • Target
  • Walgreens
  • CVS
  • World Market
  • Amazon

The cute little Lindt chocolate carrots and the foil wrapped ducks and lambs  I found on amazon. The foil wrapped carrots and golden chocolate eggs were found at Walgreens for $1 a bag! I think the unsung hero though is the Cadbury metallic chocolate eggs. Don’t ask me how they made metallic chocolate eggs, I don’t want to know. All I can tell you is the ration of shell to milk chocolate beats out M & M’s any day. If you find these (CVS) stock up. One of the funnest things on the board is even the grass is edible! I found the edible grass at Walgreens. If you don’t have a Walgreens near you it’s also on Amazon. It comes in three different colors blue, pink and green.

My kitchen doesn’t have a lot of storage space so I’m particular about letting anything strictly seasonal into it. Now that I say that I think the only seasonal dishes I have are my turkey plates for Thanksgiving from William Sonoma and my holiday salad plates from Pottery Barn. I shopped around for a cute Easter / Spring platter but nothing jumped out at me and then I also reminded myself that you really are not going to see the board or platter anyway. I have this old one form Anthropologie that has a white rim which is perfect. When I make a charcuterie or snack board I like to use a neutral background so the food can be the star.

How to Make an Easter Candy Charcuterie Board

  1. Keep the background simple. I prefer a solid, neutral color so that the food can be the focus. The platter used here has a design in the middle but a white edge. I also go for a rectangle or a round shape because it’s easer to design and create a flow of the food.
  2. Elevate things to create different heights and textures. I used the edible grass to prop some of the smaller pieces of chocolate candy up. I also used bowls with a coordinating solid color to the candle to corral things like jelly beans, chocolate eggs and more. Giving height to the board makes it look packed full.
  3. Find a color family. I found bright neons and metallic candies and stuck to that theme for this Easter candy charcuterie board. Keeping the candy in the same tones creates a scene pleasing to the eye.
  4. Work with odd numbers. I used three bowls up the middle to draw your eye across the board. I also laid out the peep rabbits in a row of five. Odd numbers are great for floral arranging as well as candy boards.
  5. Mix up your candies shape, textures and size. The small eggs contrast with the large marshmallow peeps. Different textures provide a nice contrast across the board.
  6. Use fillers to make it full. One of the biggest issues when a charcuterie board is looking off to me is that it’s not FULL. Find smaller scale pieces of candy like rolos or eggs to tuck in behind the larger statement candies. Use the edible grass to fill in any blank holes in the board. I started with the grass first and pulled it out in between the candy as I worked.

Easter candy is so fun and colorful it was fun to make it into a snack board. I have two favorite food holidays and Easter is a very close second to Thanksgiving. I am heading to my parents this year for Easter and I think I’ll be making one of these “for the kids”.
