i was going to show ya all of my holiday decor in one post but considering i’m posting 15 pictures of my mantle.. i thought best to divide it up even though i only decorated one room.
it is kinda sad but totally in line with my personality that i would unpack all of my christmas decorations before i even thought to unpack the rest of my home (like furniture or dishes). i have never been able to get out every single decoration because i didn’t have the room in our old house nor did i have the right kind of mantel for it.
so the number one question i get asked when showing off my vintage christmas (which by the way pales in comparison to my friend lisas collection) (but that might be another post)… here is the lowdown. it takes years of collecting. i have been buying vintage christmas for about 6 years now. i don’t like to ebay so i find a lot of it at antique and vintage shops, flea markets and if i’m lucky thrift store and estate sales.
some of my favorite places around grand rapids to find vintage christmas are
1. lost and found off of century in GR
2. east town antiques in… east town grand rapids
3. painted farmgirl in hudsonville (duh)
4. landry antiques off of chicago drive
the top two flea markets for chirstmas decorations (around west michigan) was the downtown market (the sept and oct shows) and of course allegan flea market.
two of my favorite places to buy non vintage holiday items are
1. rebel reclaimed in east town
2. everlasting blooms in cascade
the number one question i get asked about my holiday mantel is WHERE did you get that big A?!? once i realize they are talking about the actual letter in my living room.. i tell them i found that gem at the midland michigan flea market last summer. it was one of the only finds that day and i have been just waiting for the right time to use it!
i can’t decide what my favorite part of the mantel is but i think by far my favorite collection is either my plaid cooler collection (this isn’t even all of them) or my resin deer collection.
happy wednesday friends!
