My curly hair has always been a part of my identity. I have heard so many stories about hair texture changing with pregnancy and childbirth however; my curl pattern didn’t change with the exception of hair loss and dryness. Now that my son is a bit older, I have been trying to focus on taking time to care for myself especially my hair. Before the quarantine, I had been been getting regular cuts and color but also trying to find products online that are nourishing and enhance my curls.
Before the COVID-19 situation, my stylist had suggested that I find a good nourishing hair mask to implement into my routine once a week. I went online and found the Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Hair Mask, Maui Moisture Hair Care Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Combing Cream and the Maui Moisture Nourish & Moisture + Coconut Milk Weightless Oil Mist.
These products by Maui Moisture came highly recommended by multiple curly hair Instagram accounts I follow. I was very impressed with the results from the first time I used them.
I was extremely excited to try out the combing cream because most of my hair breakage comes from when I brush my hair out and get rid of the tangles. I normally brush my hair dry before getting in the shower but this time I waited and used the hair mask and combing cream. I let the mask set for about 5 minutes while I exfoliated and shaved my legs and I couldn’t believe how silky and smooth my hair felt. I applied the combing cream while I was still in the shower and my brush glided through my curls. No tugging, no pulling and the tangles that I typically toiled with just fell through. I finished with a light spritz of the Coconut Milk Oil Mist and also used it when I was finished drying and styling my hair.
We’ve been home for six weeks now and I have had time to read a book and relax while my hair mask sets in for a deep condition. A friend of mine texted me a picture of the Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Shampoo and Conditioner asking if this was the product I used. Not yet! I replied as I ordered some right away. I loved the mask and styling products so much I wanted to see how other products mixed in to my curly hair cocktail. You can add these products to your cart here. The first thing I loved was the smell of the Curl Quench + Coconut Oil line. It might be chilly in Michigan right now but the Coconut Oil smelled like a warm beach far far away. Even better? The product actually worked. It left my hair feeling silky smooth and I didn’t need more than a two quarter size amount of the conditioner for my hair.
I followed up with the Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie to assist in my post shower styling. It’s designed to help define thick curls and I loved the soft bounce and body it gave my curl pattern. The Papaya Butter smells so good but is not over powering and it is meant for a wash-and-go style which has become my nightly routine after playing outside all day with Otto.
The Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate Shea Butter products made with are made with aloe vera as its first ingredient, coconut oil and pure macadamia oil. The Curl Quench + Coconut Oil line is free from silicones and parabens and is vegan-friendly, which keeps product from building up and weighing down your curls. These products combined leave my hair healthy and defined. Curly hair runs in my family and I was thrilled when my baby boy’s hair grew out to be curly. It’s something that I know I passed on to him (along with his stubbornness). I hope he embraces his curls as much as his mama.
