Under normal circumstances I am a salty over sweet kind of gal. My great grandma Sjaarda always said she would choose a piece of cheese over chocolate and I would have to agree that apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. That is 99% of the case unless I’m close to one of my favorite chocolate places, Mokaya Chocolate Grand Rapids. There is nothing I love more after a good dinner than stopping over to Mokaya Chocolate and getting a delicious homemade peppermint patty to finish off the meal. While I’m there I might as well stock up on a few of my favorites right?
Mokaya Chocolate Grand Rapids is located at 638 Wealthy St. Grand Rapids, MI 49503 and open 6 days a week (closed on Sunday).
The chocolate is truly a work of art. The chocolates are created and painted in house and are almost too good to eat. Almost…Once you smell the aroma coming from the doorway you can’t help but dive in to your order. I typically get one to enjoy in the car and one to enjoy after dinner at home.
There are so many amazing things on the menu at Mokaya Chocolate some of my favorite things to indulge in are:
The Peppermint Patty. It’s refreshing and petite and the best part is the crunchy sweet crystalized mint sprinkled on the top of the patty.
The Brown Butter Toffee Chocolate Chunk Cookie. I originally had this with their homemade ice cream in the middle but the cookies are absolutely stunning, crunchy and delicious. The bottom of the cookie has a smooth chocolate finish with hand painted designs on them.
The Chocolate Malted Salt Caramel Fudge Brownie. I think the name pretty much speaks for itself. It’s so good but so rich and perfect to share or save half for later.
Drinking Chocolate. I thought I had ordered the hot chocolate (which is so good) but when I ordered the drinking chocolate it was a happy ordering accident. It’s served in a espresso sized cup and is 72% liquid chocolate. It’s warm and coats your throat with deep rich chocolate. It’s fantastic.
It is so important now more than ever to continue to support locally owned businesses. Mokaya Chocolate is a family run business that is working hard to keep everyone safe and able to shop during the pandemic. Currently the inside of their shop is closed but everything has been rearranged so you can shop from the window and pick up at the door. Under more normal circumstances it is one of my favorite places to kick back, open my computer for some email inbox attack while sipping hot coffee and eating my cookie. It’s the perfect way to tackle the afternoon to do list and relaxing all at the same time. When things calm down again rest assured I will be back there several times a month.
