We are in that holding space in time here in the midwest where the rush and hustle of the holidays has passed and were slowly inching towards the warmer days of spring. While it may not be warmer yet, the days are certainly getting longer (sunset is after 6pm now!) and that feels like something. I was worried about the room feeling dark and empty with the Christmas tree missing but my pals Dann and Johanna came over and did a little refresh around the house and put away all of my holiday decor. They paid a little visit to The Found Cottage and grabbed a few lamps to add some light to the space and it really filled the void that the tree had left.
One thing about me is that even if my collections are overflowing I won’t stop adding to them. I love how all over the house they used my cookbooks to fill in some of the spaces. I have been collecting cookbooks since Joe and I got married and the collection has gone a little crazy. Mixing them in to the decor has made them feel even more purposeful in addition to actually using them. This green chest was a $40 flea market find and the bust I found at an antique store for $15! The Ironstone pot is a Jardinière and I bought it from TWIG at The Found Cottage Mercantile.
During the renovation this room had to be taken down and rebuilt. It used to be a three season room above the basement garage but it had become so rotted over the years it needed to be rebuilt. Remodels should be inspired by that book if you give a mouse a cookie. Because since we had to take the screen room down and wanted to rebuild it we thought why not extend the bedroom above the screen room and make the screen room functional year round. This allowed us to add a closet in the bedroom upstairs as well as expand the kitchen downstairs.
These wicker chairs were a facebook market place find for $50! That’s right, all four chairs for $50. I couldn’t believe my luck. I had been looking at the William Sonoma version forever and these were umm significantly cheaper. The table is an older Anthropologie find. I bought it about ten years ago when they still allowed the extra percentage off sale furniture.
The chandelier is an antique from Blue Door in East town. They have SO many to choose from and when I saw this french chandelier hanging from the ceiling I knew it would be absolutely perfect for this space. The ceiling medallion is actually styrofoam that we painted to match.
The rolled arm sofa is the Tilly from CR Laine. I really loved the english cottage style of it and one thing that was important to me was finding something with a wider seat cushion since it usually ends up with all four of us crammed on it at the same time. We went with a blue and white stripe because I love color and the pattern hides the ware and tear of having two kids climbing on it.
This room has finally come together and it’s so cozy. One of the best decisions was working with an interior designer from start to finish on this house. Johanna from Johanna Rocco Design did a fantastic job incorporating my style into this home and using the pieces I’ve collected over the years dreaming of the day this project would be done.
What do you think of the space? Do you remember what it looked like before? Check it out here!
