remember our little humble abode up in pentwater michigan? she is getting new siding! YES new siding AND real windows. after much deliberation it was time to just pay someone and get it done. we’ve owned the place for almost 3 years and it’s just one of those things that needs to be done by a professional. sure we could try to figure it out but it will take us so long and with everything else going on we just want it done. it’s going to push a few other projects back but i think it will be worth it. so now here is the real question…. what color do we reside it? the siding expert informed us that the cherry red  it is currently is pretty much not going to happen. i would say we could salvage it but only the front and side are that red. the back and other side of the house are a sad combination of DIY try to match the front. i still have to look at a few other places because that is still my first choice.

so now…. lets pretend that bright beautiful red doesn’t exist. here are a few things i’m thinking. keep in mind the penthouse is only about 700 square feet and situated in a semi woodsy area.

option 1: a slate dark gray with white trim. i like how the green trees stand out against the house and it sort of becomes one with nature. it’s very modern/zen/one with the earth. i’m afraid though it might be too dark…

option 2: white with dark slate or black trim. this might be a better option to provide a little lightness in the darkish woods. however my roof is not white and i’m afraid of pollen and woods stuff getting on it.

option 3: something out of the box like a greenish mint or blue says lake to me.

option 4: keeping with the white theme but adding in elements of red… i love the red πŸ™

option 5: a light hearted yellow. this could be a nice middle ground between something super lake house and something nice and camp cottagey… if that makes sense. although at work i’m surrounded by yellow so it might rub me the wrong way.

option 6: this is the shade of red available. it’s more of a burnt red/barnish red. which would be great on a house like this but i feel like if i’m going to do red i want my cherry red. plus there are two other cottages within a half a mile with this red.

ok so what do you think!?? if i can’t find my beloved cherry red siding what do you think i should go with?

I love the idea of the greenish-mint or blue. Very cute!
Our current home is a lighter yellow and I love it. It just seems very homey to me.
I’m sure whatever you choose will be lovely…your sense of style is always spot on! πŸ™‚

    • I do too! But you don’t think mint would look out of place in the woods?

      • Melody Malone James says:

Nah…although it might have more of a “beachy” or “cottage” feel with the mint or blue…I’m all about going for what you like. I’ve never been one to conform to what’s “in” or “expected”, LOL! I like what I like and I don’t care what other people think, LOL! πŸ˜‰ I think in the end you should do what you and your hubby like best. πŸ™‚

Just visiting your blog for the first time after seeing your photo on Liz Marie ‘s blog. Love your blog so far as I make my way through the newest updates. You asked for suggestions as to color for siding on the red house, and after recently doing the same on a home I would recommend the grey, but a bit lighter than the photo shown. It would make the house appear larger, look amazing in any season and with white trim and a “Cherry Red” front door, it would be stunning. Some evergreens, white bulbs and perennials planted near the door would bring a smile to your face every time you step out/up to the door. Have a wonderful day and thanks for an amazing blog. • Hi Cassandra!
      Welcome!

Thank you so much for the suggestions!

I agree that the a light gray would be gorgeous. I love bright natural light and I think the light gray would enhance that. I also like that it would preserve the pops of red without making it look to super patriotic.

      Thanks again for the visit!

Hi Abby, I love grey on houses in the woods, kinda blends in with the trees. Put yellow on that farmhouse πŸ˜‰
