It is hard sometimes to find the best pieces at Free People and I’m well aware that there might be an “objects in mirror may be closer than they appear” situation. If you shop regularly at Free People you know what I’m talking about. On the model it looks like a dreamy, flowy dress perfect for that special maternity photoshoot. However when it arrives, you tear open the package and try the dress on only to find that you could probably fit about 10 of you in the dress and that it’s 4 feet too long. So you package it back up trek to the post office, send it back and wait for your refund. Come on, I can’t be the only one who’s had this experience?
There are a few tips and tricks i’ve learned over the year about how to find the best pieces for you on the Free People site like this amazing cream tunic sweater I bought with my birthday coupon. Which PS. if you sign up for their emails you get an exclusive 20% off everything coupon on your birthday month.
To avoid the time waste of returning and exchanging and disappointment I’ve come up with a few tips on how to navigate the website and how to find the best pieces for you at Free People.
- Start by shopping in the “Top Rated” category. You can find this on the home page of the free people website under “Clothes” and then “Top Rated”. The top rated category contains items with the highest and most 4.5-5/5 star reviews. Typically these pieces have a lower return rate and have positive feedback from other shoppers.
- Read the reviews! Free people and Anthropologie have some of the best community based shopping reviews I’ve ever seen. It’s hard to find an item that hasn’t been reviewed. I always find that they are spot on. They’ll rate where an item falls on the true to size scale and sometimes provide photos of them wearing the item. To fill out the review people enter height, weight and age which gives you a good idea of how the item would fit you. The photos are so helpful.
- Shop by keyword search. If you are looking for a specific texture or item type start typing into the keyword and the most relevant and most searched topics will pop up. I typed in “velvet” and several velvet options appeared that sometimes do not show up when I search “tops”. If you are looking for something specific don’t waist your time scrolling page after page. Search a specific fabric or style instead. Just make sure to read those reviews!
Free People is like a department store within it’s own brand. It has beauty supplies, denim, activewear, pajamas and more. It can be time consuming and difficult to navigate to find the best pieces at Free People. This winter I felt like they were one of the few brands releasing really good new pieces. My friend Ashley and I have this feeling a lot of brands held on to “their good stuff” until 2021 instead of releasing it.
I have been pretty picky lately about what I bring into my closet but I have found a couple of really great pieces that were keepers. This large soft sweater is one of my favorites as well as this plaid poncho and this oversized pink coat.
Many of these same tips and tricks can be applied to the anthropologie website as they are owned by the same parent company.
Have you had any luck finding amazing pieces on the Free People website? What have been some of your favorites?
