penthouse progress siding edition

remember my sweet little red cottage? remember how i spent all summer long deliberating about how to reside this beast? we finally decided it was best to hire it out. the walls are crooked and uneven and there are three different kinds of siding materials on the house. it was just too much for joe and i to tackle ourselves especially when a professional could square up the rest of it you know?

so the journey began to find cherry red siding. that was a lot more difficult than i thought. so difficult in fact that if i wanted cherry red siding it was going to have to be custom made/painted and cost an additional 4-6,000 dollars. nope. not today. especially because this place needed new windows.

after much deliberating and heartbreak over the red… i finally decided on a color….

here is the before….penthouse

yes went in a TOTALLY different direction. it’s called gunmetal. it’s almost black but still gray. i chose to go with a dark color ( mint and marigold were also in the running) buy it was just too woodsy for those colors. lots of dust and pollen etc. plus this color made everything else around it POP. i have copper light fixtures for outdoors coming and we are painting the deck white. I have thought about painting the door cherry red in memory of my beloved red cottage.

i also LOVE the way the old door of the barn stands out against the darker siding. it makes everything look…bigger? we also installed new windows which is amazing because we couldn’t really use this place in the winter because there was about a half inch gap around all the windows. so much so that snow would blow it. good luck keeping that warm! these windows were on the lower end of the price spectrum but efficient enough to do the job!

what do you think?!?!?

Looks awesome, Abby! Definitely give that front door a pop of color, whether it is red or something else.

      Thank you Stacey!
I’m thinking that door most definitely has to be red.

Wow, what an upgrade! It looks great. I totally get why you were attracted to the red. I mean, it was gorgeous. But I LOOOOVE this new color, and even though the windows are new, they do have a vintage feel to them! Congrats on a job well done!

It looks SO great Abby! Love how the white trim looks against the dark siding. A red door would be the perfect touch. Or sunny yellow. That’d look pretty great too. Yay for being able to use it year-round. 🙂
